Our Kettle Cove Story

Our
Story

To start off, I should introduce myself... Hi! I'm Corrie, and most likely, when chatting poodles, you'll be talking to me! My lifelong love of dogs has been both a natural instinct and a gift from my dad. From a very young age, I was taught how to engage properly with a dog. I've experienced how a dog can be such a powerful ally in rough times and an incredible source of pride and joy sharing in the good times.

Throughout my life, I've always had retrievers, primarily Labradors and one very special chunky Golden Retriever. So when my husband and I had a serious talk about the criteria for our lifetime breed, a couple things were obvious requirements: athletic, eager-to-train, docile temperament, family-friendly, natural retrieving instinct,  adaptable, consistency, and a good on/off switch. However, at this stage and progression of our lives, a couple new factors had entered the equation: non-shedding (I just couldn't deal with the furballs in every corner anymore!), and a slightly more independent personality (we need to divide our attention amongst kids, projects, our property, and our dogs).  Erik, my husband is actually the one who brought up the idea of a Standard Poodle, ie. a 'German Water Retriever'. I researched obsessively, and fell in love with the simplicity of the purebred Standard Poodle.  And bada-boom, really and truly, everything lined up.

As in any dog breed, you do need to be conscious of the parents, and what attributes they have, that could be passed along to the offspring. So upon our search for Abby Dabs (our beautiful foundation dam), we sought out a small program that was very temperament and family oriented, supported by a backbone of health testing. First and foremost, this girl became a member of our family but alongside that, we also began her qualifying journey as the future foundation female to Kettle Cove Standard Poodles. She's passed everything we've thrown at her with flying colors (CHIC Standards): DNA health testing (100% clear via Paw Print Genetics & Embark), Pennhip (Hip evaluations), Eye (OFA CAER), and Cardiac (OFA). From an obedience standpoint, we train at home and have successfully gotten Abby Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certified as well as awarded AKC Trick Novice and Virtual Home Manners titles. Her bond with our children is incredible, our daughter, who is very in touch with her emotions, finds solace in the comfort of her poodle. Our son, gets so proud of how he can lead her into trick success alongside Mommy. I am confident that, in this family, the next generation of dog-lovers is secured.

We are blessed to be able to raise our puppies and family on the beautiful Wisconsin countryside.  While this business does require our, otherwise private family, to open our world to others, we are beyond excited to share the gift of a heart dog with you.  We do everything in our power to ensure your experience with Kettle Cove results in a lifelong positive placement for our puppies in their homes with you.

We take the safety and well-being of our puppies and families incredibly seriously. As such, please note that visits to our home are selective and our property is under video surveillance 24/7.
